Boxing results: Lawrence Okolie beat David Light

Via Charles Brun: Lawrence Okolie (19-0, 14 KOs) retained his WBO cruiser class title with a dull 12th round unanimous decision against David Light (20-1, 12 KOs) in a match at AO Arena in Manchester, England.

6’5′ Okolie used the trick in the book to stop Light’s offense tonight. We have seen a lot holding, leaning, wrestling, head-locking and hard arming performed by Okolie.

Light doesn’t display any powers, and that makes Okolie’s job easier since he doesn’t have to worry about anything essentially coming back to him. The way Light fights, it’s difficult to give him more than a few bullets because he’s so average.

You can see how training with Tyson Fury has affected Okolie because he’s Tyson-esque tonight with the grappling he’s doing to stop Light’s offense and make him tilt fatigue. People.

Usually, Okolie is interesting to see how he throws bombs with his right hand to destroy his opponents. But tonight, he looks like a Tyson Fury clone with his hits, and it’s hard to watch. The crowd in the ring hated what they saw, because they booed a lot. Interestingly, you can hear a pin drop in the AO Arena for the first six rounds. It is quiet.

No one cheered for no reason due to lack of action. During the second half of the battle, the crowd booed for the lack of action, letting Okolie and Light know that they were not happy with what they saw and wanted them to pick it up.

The referee didn’t give the score until the 11th round. By then, Light had fallen too far behind in the fight to win the fight.

Had the referee started early, deducting Okolie points very early for his foul, then Light had a good chance of winning, but he used the Laissez-faire method to control the champion.

Scores:

During the championship rounds, Light made some nice hits to get Okolie’s attention, but they weren’t enough to get him the rounds. The much taller Okolie makes it impossible for Light to get close enough to land, and when he gets close, he will tie him up to make sure he can’t do anything.

Okolie will be in big trouble against Richard Riakporhe, Yuniel Dorticos or Jai Opetaia.
