Boxing Results: Juan “El Gallo” Estrada Beat Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez to Win the WBC Fly Belt!


Via Ken Hisner: At Gila River Arena, Glendale, Arizona on Saturday against DAZN Eddie Hearn (Matchroom Boxing) in the Third Main Event against former Second Division World Champion Juan “El Galo” Estrada won by majority decision first former World 4th Champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez for the vacant WBC World Super Flyweight belt.

In the co-feature WBC World Flyweight Champion Julio “El Rey” Cesar Martinez won by majority decision over Samuel Carmona.

In the Main Event, former 2nd place champion Juan “El Galo” Estrada, 43-3 (28), #115, of Puerto Penasco, MEX, former 4th place champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, 51-3 (41) , #114.7, of Managua, NIC, 12 rounds, for the vacant WBC Super Fly title.
In the first two innings it was all Estrada with a bit of Gonzalez fouling. In the third half, Gonzalez finally opened the scoring in the first two minutes then Estrada started a good counterattack in the last minute.
In the fourth round, Gonzalez dominated rocking Estrada in the final seconds with a forehand. In the fifth to eighth rounds, Estrada counterattacked very well with chin-butts that made Gonzalez chase and get hit. In the ninth inning, it went back and forth with Gonzalez taking the lead.
In the tenth and eleventh rounds, Estrada knocked out Gonzalez, who kept chasing him around the ring. In the twelfth and final round, Estrada did enough to win the round and the match. The referee is Chris Flores.
The scores are 114-114, 116-112 and 115-113 with this writer at 116-112.
In the co-feature, WBC Flyweight champion Julio “El Rey” Martinez, 19-2 (14), #111, of Mexico City, MEX, retained his title with a majority decision ahead of the Olympian Samuel “The Gypsy” Carmona, 8-1 (4), #111.4, by Las Palmas, SP, over 12 rounds.
In the first two innings, Martinez made several landings before a solid stab from Carmona, who also landed forehand in the second round. In the third round, Martinez rocked Carmona in the final seconds with a chin-up combination.
In the fourth round, Carmona continued to move around the ring well but Martinez would catch him up with a two-fist strike. In the sixth to eighth rounds, Martinez continued to have trouble cutting the ring but still finished more than Carmona, who rarely used his right.
In the ninth round, the fans disagreed with Carmona running around the ring and throwing a few punches. In the 10th and 11th rounds, Martinez had the advantage when Carmona was ahead of him but that was rare.
In the twelfth and final round, it was over but Carmona seemed to have made it through. The referee is Wes Melton.
The scores are 114-114, 117-111 and 116-112 with this writer at 115-113.
Flyweight Joselito “El Huracan” Velazquez, 15-1-1 (10), #112.3, of Oaxaca, MEX, lost to former WBC Fly champion Christofer “El Latigo” Rosales, 35-6 (21), #112.6, of Managua, NIC, 10+ action rounds.
During the second round, Velazquez’s left eye area began to swell. In the third round, Velazquez returned well in an action skirmish that won the round. In the fourth and fifth innings, Rosales used a good left hook to Velazquez’s chin in two good rounds.
In the seventh and eighth rounds, both had crowd-pleasing skirmishes. In the ninth round, Velazquez made good use of the chin headers while Rosales returned with the chin combos. In the tenth and final round, fans were stunned by the actions of both boxers. The referee is Dennis O’Connell.
Score is 97-93 by all 3 judges with 96-94 from this writer.
21-year-old US WBC Super Middle Champion Diego Pacheco, 17-0 (14), #167.4, of South Central Los Angeles, CA, impressed when he scored a pair that took down Ricardo “Tyson” Luna, 24- 9-2 (16), #168, by Ciudad Nezahualcoyoti, MEX, at 2:08 of the second round of 10.
At half point of the second round, Pacheco knocked Luna out with a punch to the chin awarded by Referee Tony Zaino with an 8. Pacheco pursued Luna injuring him with a headbutt, two hits and a right chin and knocks him down with a cut between his eyes. When increasing the angle, he threw the towel in.
Super Feather Marc Castro, 9-0 (6), #133.6, of Fresno, CA, won by a bad decision knocking out Maickol “El Coyote” Lopez, 16-4 (8), #132, of Baja California, MEX, Miami, FL, more than 8 rounds.
In the first two innings, former amateur champion Castro overpowered Lopez. In the final 30 seconds of the third round, Castro secured three solid rights to Lopez’s chin. In the fourth and fifth innings, Castro continued to foul that put Lopez ahead.
In the sixth round, Lopez stepped forward to fight back but Castro always responded to him with more landing punches than Lopez. In the final minute of the seventh round, Castro continued to knock Lopez down until he finally dropped to his knees and spat out his mouth. Referee Joey Chivas gave him the number 8 when the bell rang.
In the eighth and final round, no one knew what held Lopez back other than his bravery. Especially Castro, who did everything he could to stop him at the bell.
Score is 80-71 by all 3 judges and this writer.
5th-placed WBA International Middle champion south of Austin “Ammo” Williams, 13-0 (9), #?, of Houston, TX, took a decisive win over Simon “Viking” Madsen, 13-1 (10 ), #, of Horsens, DK and Cancun, MEX, more than 10 rounds.
In the second half, Williams prevailed against Madsen, who was on the defensive and was overpowered by Williams. In the third round when Madsen had a favorable confrontation, Williams returned immediately with a combination. In the fourth round, Williams took Madsen’s nose. He was warned by the referee for performing. In the sixth to eighth rounds, Williams continued to knock out Madsen, who occasionally landed with a bullet to the body with his nose continuing to bleed.
In the ninth inning, referee Wes Melton took Madsen’s point for an elbow to Williams’ face. In the tenth and final round, Williams tried to add time but Madsen was able to take the lead in an unequal teamfight.
Score is 99-90 by all 3 judges with 100-89 by this writer.
Super featherweight Olympic silver medalist Beatriz “The Beast” Ferreira, 2-0 (2), #129 ½, of Sao Paulo, BRZ, impressed by stopping Carisse Brown, 7-3 (4), #129 ¼, of Lakeland, FL, at 1:20 of the second round of the scheduled 4×2 round.
The first half was all about action with Ferreira in attack. In the last 20 seconds, she steered Brown into the ropes causing Referee Joey Chavez to count to 8. The bell came to her rescue. In the second half, Ferreira injured Brown again when referee Chavez ruled to knock him down and count to 8. Brown used his longer jab to try to stop Ferreira but was unsuccessful when referee Chavez was unruly. suspend the match.
Super Fly Anthony “Superman” Herrea, 4-0-1 (3), #119 ½, of Los Angeles, CA, stopped Christian Sullivan, 8-1 (5), #119 ¾, of Casa Grande, AZ, with a score of 1:41 of the third round of a 4.
In the first round, which was all about mid-action, Herrera delivered more than half a dozen punches as Sullivan headed straight for them. He is back after 4 years of absence. In the second inning, Sullivan delivered a jolt to the chin that caught Herrera’s attention and was the aggressor most of the time. In the third inning, a left hook to Herrera’s chin resulted in Sullivan being given an 8 by Referee Tony Zaino in the first half minute. Then in the last minute of the period, Herrera let Sullivan foul when the referee had seen enough and asked for a pause.
