When the bell rang for the start of the match, hometown boxer Robbie Davies Jr was very active with his forehand. He used it as a distraction, and as a result he was able to set up and land a few solid right-handed shots.

During the second round, Davies was able to control the tempo of the round using thrusts and landings on Foley’s body. In the final seconds of the second half, Foley landed with his large right hand sending Davies to the frame.

As Davies was descending, his right leg was awkwardly bent back and it looked like he might have sprained his ankle. However, Davies was able to stand up when the official bell to end the round rang.

At the start of the third inning, Davies appeared to have successfully headed, but he was moving with a limp. Twelve seconds into the third round, Foley made a powerful jab, and then he attempted a second stab. When Davies tried to step back to avoid a second stab, he sprained his ankle terribly.

Davies was unable to continue as the referee paused the contest and Darragh Foley (22-4-1, 10 KOs) was awarded a TKO victory. This was an important fight for both men and fortunately for Foley he was able to leave the UK with a win in the end.

It was a disappointing night for 33-year-old Robbie Davies Jr (23-4, 15 KOs) as his three-match winning streak came to an end, and on top of that, he could have been severely injured. The combination of the loss and an ankle injury are obstacles Davies will face while he figures out the next step in his career.

For Darragh Foley, a Sydney, Australian native now living in Ireland, has his eyes on an opportunity two months from now. In his post-match interview, he asked promoter Eddie Hearn for help.

Before the start of the Davies-Foley match, Eddie Hearn announced that on May 20, undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor will have a fight back home in Dublin, Ireland, as she prepares to face against undisputed lightweight champion Chantelle Cameron.

Darragh Foley is aware of the big fight and in his post-match interview he decided to start his campaign to secure a spot on the bottom card.

“There was a fight in my backyard, my second backyard, May 20, Ireland. Come on, Eddie, man, come on, Eddie.” Foley will continue to draw crowds to join in to help him beg to fight on May 20.

“Hey Liverpool, do I deserve to fight in Dublin on May 20?! Make me a noise! Come on, Liverpool, make some noise! Eddie, are you listening?! Did you hear that, Eddie?!”
