Bored Ape Yacht Club Discord Reportedly Compromised In $250,000 NFT Phishing Attack
Less than two months after someone infiltrated the official Bored Ape Yacht Club to steal $2.4 million worth of NFTs, BAYC founder Yuga Labs was once again faced with questions about its security measures. Follow . After obtaining the community manager’s credentials, the hackers used the official Bored Apes Discord to advertise fake giveaways exclusively for Bored Ape, Mutant Ape, and Otherside NFT owners.
“Do not use ANY other website,” the notice said after linking to the website the hacker used to steal the NFT. “This is the only official website!” According to data from blockchain security firm , one BAYC and two Mutant Apes tokens were stolen in the scam. At current Ethereum exchange rates, the full 32 NFTs are worth around $256,000.
We have reached out to Yuga Labs for comment. The company has yet to share an official statement about the incident – although it was quick to lock Bored Apes Discord after the scam took place. The server, among several others associated with high-profile NFT projects, also hacked in early April when a bad guy compromised the CAPTCHA bot that Yuga Labs uses to stop spammers.
