Bombay Club: A great place for a meal with friends, family or even to eat alone


Bombay Club opened its doors to Delhiites in July of this year, but we waited a couple of weeks before deciding to take a look at it. The food scene in India has been so vibrant over the past few years, that restaurants open with great fanfare and so quickly you get lost in the buzzing surroundings. Bombay Club is designed in a modern, minimalist style that calms our minds. The restaurant is decorated in white, blue and beige tones, giving it an instantly recognizable vintage look. The strategically placed sunroofs fill the space with bright natural light throughout the day. Cane furniture, vintage photographs and antique pieces give the space a fun, vibrant and cozy feel of Bombay. Whether you decide to drop in for lunch or dinner, this bright space is buzzing and alive with enthusiastic diners and smiling wait staff.

Food and drink

The menu is eclectic and a pleasure to peruse. The drink menu includes Indianised coolers, many of which taste even better than they sound. We tried Popcorn Lemonade, Green Chilli Banta and Kokum Mary. Popcorn Lemonade – well, who would have thought that popcorn could be part of a cooler, right? As weird as it sounds, this popcorn cooler is a fun one. You can also order the Kokum Mary, which is served in a tall glass. The Bombay Club insists that the concept of drinks served there comes from nostalgia so the moment you take a sip, you can relive the old days. Last but not least, Green Chilli Banta is well worth a try and great to share. If you like some bold flavors, give it a try!

The food menu is a delight. It is divided into the usual categories – from salads and sandwiches to pound cakes and stews. I started with Bun Maska Trio inspired by British wigs. The vermicelli is served with three types of butter – all reminiscent of Bombay! Next, I tried their Keema Pao, a play on Mumbai’s famous local street food featuring a rich keema curry topped with onions, cilantro and lemon. I kept trying the Mini Vada Pao that everyone was raving about but it didn’t live up to my expectations. It’s a spiced bata vada served with sweet chili jam and thecha butter.

Innovation knows no bounds here, as Skinny Sweet Potato Fries demonstrates. With deep fried sweet potato (shakarkandi) served with thecha mayonnaise. However, I was hoping they were baked and not fried to keep the health quotient up.

On the other hand, Avo funnel eggs and Akoori completely blew our minds. The Avo Egg Hopper is a breakfast dish of smashed avocado and poached eggs topped with a mango lime sauce, paired with a spicy peanut chutney, while Akoori is Parsi-style masala scrambled eggs with Iranian influences, on avocado toast. . The flavors play all the right notes and come with a bit of drama. Another winner is Baida Roti. As the menu says, the dish is inspired by the dish of the same name from the Bade Miyan restaurant in Mumbai. Each part of this dish comes together perfectly to deliver a complex array of flavors in every bite. Must try!
