Boeing has again halted 787 deliveries due to problems with fuselage parts.
The US aviation regulator said on Thursday Boeing had suspended deliveries of the 787 Dreamliner again following new problems with a fuselage part.
The latest pause is a disappointment for the aerospace giant after it resumed jet deliveries in August after more than a year of pause.
Boeing is “conducting additional analysis of an fuselage component,” the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement.
“Delivery will not resume until the FAA is satisfied that the matter has been resolved. The FAA is working with Boeing to determine any action that may be required on recently delivered aircraft. “, the statement added.
Boeing said it “discovered a supplier analysis error” related to the 787’s front pressure bulkhead during the review, adding that the halt occurred when company complete the required analysis and documentation.
“There are no immediate flight safety concerns for the active fleet,” a Boeing spokesperson said, noting that production continues. Boeing does not expect a transition to production and transport outlook for the year.
The 787 entered service in late summer 2020, when the company discovered a manufacturing defect with some of the jets and later identified other issues, including an issue with the horizontal stabilizer.
Difficulties limited deliveries between November 2020 and March 2021. Boeing halted deliveries in late spring 2021 after more problems emerged.
But the company sped up delivery back 22 in the fourth quarter of last year. While that’s a decisive improvement, it marks a much lower level than the peak span of the pandemic.
Boeing’s difficulties with the 787 came as the company tried to re-establish its relationship with the FAA in the wake of the 737 MAX disaster.
But the latest issue threatens to hamper the aviation industry’s recovery as more and more airlines seek new jets to fill pent-up demand.
Air India unveiled a record batch of orders earlier this month from Airbus and Boeing, including 20 Dreamliner planes, with options for 20 more.
Shares of Boeing fell 3.1% to $201.75 in after-hours trading.
