Boeing delivered its first Dreamliner 787 in more than a year on Wednesday, ending a pause in deliveries of the jets due to a series of manufacturing flaws.
American Airlines The airline’s CEO, Robert Isom, has received the first new deliveries from Boeing’s 787 factory in South Carolina, said in an Instagram post.
The delivery is a major milestone for Boeing. Airplanes are the manufacturer’s main source of cash, and most of the plane’s price is paid on delivery – although the company has had to compensate customers for delays.
Delivery has been kept for the past two years. Earlier this year, Boeing said manufacturing defects and production declines during deliveries would worth 5.5 billion dollars.
Dreamliner customers like Americans and United Airlines had to go without their new plane, normally used for long-haul international routes, while demand for such trips rebounded this year.
Among the problems discovered were small, inaccurate gaps in some parts of the fuselage.
“Every action and decision affects our customers’ confidence in Boeing – we build trust in every aircraft,” said Stan Deal, CEO of Boeing’s commercial aircraft division. wrote in a note to employees Wednesday. “We will continue to take the time necessary to ensure each product meets our highest quality standards.”
The Federal Aviation Administration said earlier this week asked Boeing to resume deliverieswas set to start this week.
FAA power regulator Billy Nolen visited the 787 plant last Thursday and met with FAA safety inspectors about steps to improve manufacturing quality, the agency said. at the beginning of this week.
