Bodies of eight people including five children found at Utah home | US News
Authorities said eight people – five of them children – were found dead from gunshot wounds at a home in southwestern Utah.
The bodies were discovered when police officers carried out a welfare check at a residence in the small town of Enoch.
Officials said in a statement that there were no suspects or threats to the public, adding that the investigation was continuing.
Enoch City Manager Rob Dotson said the deceased – all members of one family – were well known in this town of about 8,000 residents.
Officials have not released the identities of the victims.
“Many of us have served with them in our church, in our community, and in school with these individuals,” Mr. Dotson said in a video statement Wednesday night.
“This community is hurting at this time. They are feeling loss, hurt and have a lot of questions,” he said, noting that authorities planned to release more information. trust when information is available.
Mr Dotson added: “Welfare checks based on calls to the police, such as those leading them to a residence, are routine when individuals are not seen for long periods of time.
Officials said in a letter to parents, the five children attended schools in the Iron District School District.
“We deeply regret to inform you of a tragic loss to our school community,” the statement read.
“This loss is sure to cause a lot of emotion, worry and wonder for our entire school district, especially our students.”
It added: “We are saddened by the loss to our school community and will do our best to help you and your child as needed.”
Utah Governor Spencer Cox offered his condolences in a tweet Wednesday night.
“Our hearts go out to all those affected by this senseless violence. Please pray for the Enoch community,” he wrote.
