BMW M Motorsport is offering a winning race car to a private buyer, BMW’s racing arm announced on Tuesday.

The car, chassis number 1809, is one of eight M8 GTE cars built and campaigned in the IMSA Sports Championship between 2018 and 2020. It is the most successful car of the bunch having posted a total of six times. finished as BMW M Team RLL won the Michelin Endurance Cup and came in second in the GTLM Driver, Team and Manufacturer points table. The car even reruns the Rolex 24 in 2021 and comes in third.

“The BMW M8 GTE represents a no-money-is-nothing GT race car. It is truly a technical masterpiece. The new owner of the BMW M8 GTE No. 1809 will be the manager. an incredibly important part of BMW’s history in the US and can count on support from BMW in the years to come to ensure its condition and value is maintained at the highest level,” said Tom Plucinsky, General Manager said the director of BMW USA Classic.
BMW USA Classic says it will retain two running examples of the eight cars, as well as vehicle support parts. The Chassis 1809 is one of only three other running cars in existence. The other two may go on sale in the future.
The 1809 chassis was most recently tested this past February at the Palm Beach International Speedway with famed BMW racer Bill Auberlen at the wheel. BMW ran the car through a series of tests and updated its program to make it easier for customers to use. The purchase will come with technical notes, press and marketing materials, a 2020 Rolex 24 trophy, special tools needed to operate the vehicle, and a spare parts package with a set of wheels. Supplements and many items are consumed during a race. BMW M Motorsport will be on hand to help run the car and supply parts for whatever race the ultimate owner wants to make.

How the buyer uses the car will affect its price. “Price depends on what the potential customer wants to do with the car (static screen vs classic race car, etc.) and what tech support they already have.
