BMW acquires rights to Alpina . tuning brand

BMW car acquired trademark rights to Alpina brand, bringing the tight fit regulator internally to a limited extent. No financial details were disclosed but BMW will not take a stake in Alpina.

Founded in 1965, Alpina actively tuned BMWs for motorsport throughout the 1960s and 70s. The first Alpina passenger cars debuted in 1978 since then, the company has expanded into a full-fledged vehicle manufacturer based in Buchloe, Germany – selling around 2,000 vehicles by 2021.

BMW has said that the move to electrification, along with emissions legislation and driver assistance systems leads to higher risks for small-line manufacturers like Alpina. The partnership is supposed to ensure the long-term viability of the Buchloe brand.

BMW and Alpina will continue the existing partnership agreement secured until 2025, with BMW-assembled cars receiving numerous modifications from Alpina, such as powertrain, chassis, aerodynamics Furniture and equipment are fine-tuned according to customer requirements. Alpina’s customer service and parts business will also continue without changes to its after-sales operations.

Alpina did not work on a fully electric BMW isn’t there yet, but this new partnership will continue into the latter part of the decade and a BMW-based electric Alpina seems inevitable.

The Buchloe plant itself will remain Alpina’s production hub, although BMW has suggested current employees may not be retained by Alpina beyond 2025. A restructuring of the brand’s workforce could be possible. including the transfer of Alpina workers to other BMW Group brands.
