Blonde: First glimpse of Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik’s adult-rated biopic | Ents & Arts News

Netflix has released the official trailer for Blonde, which shows the transformed Ana de Armas – who has gone from brunette to platinum blonde – in the lead role of Marilyn Monroe.

The two-minute video – mostly in black and white – shows the Cuban-born actress with Monroe’s The trademark platinum curls, as she prepared for the film’s premiere before posing in front of the paparazzi.

The film is rated NC-17 – the highest motion picture rating, which means it contains strong adult content or pornography and is not suitable for people 17 years of age or younger. The UK equivalent is 18.

Written by Australian director and screenwriter Andrew Dominik and will premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival.

Set in Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend, the film blends reality and fiction to recreate the seemingly glamorous life of the star.

In the trailer, we hear de Armas voice: “I can’t face doing another scene with Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn doesn’t exist.

“When I walk out of the dressing room, I’m Norma Jeane. I’m still her while the cameras are rolling. Marilyn Monroe only exists on screen.”

We also see a re-enactment of the now iconic moment in the 1955 film The Seven Year Itch, in which Monroe’s white dress is blown up as she stands on a train fence implicit.

The trailer ends with the words “Watched by All, Viewed by No One”.

The highly anticipated film is based on the novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates.

Exploring the divide between her public and private life, the film follows the singer-actress from her tumultuous childhood as Norma Jeane Mortenson to international stars and famous love affairs hers.

The biopic also stars Adrien Brody as playwright and husband Arthur Miller, as well as Bobby Cannavale, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams.

Monroe was married three times and died in August 1962, at the age of 36, from a suspected drug overdose.

De Armas, 34, recently appeared as Paloma in the Bond film No Time To Die, as well as Deep Water opposite Ben Affleck and another Netflix production, The Gray Man.

Blonde is released on Netflix on September 28, following its premiere at the Venice festival, where the film will compete for the Golden Lion.
