Blair Cobbs criticizes Canelo for “easy fights” and Spence for “alcohol addiction”

Via Dan Ambrose: Welterweight prospect Blair Cobbs doesn’t have much to say about Canelo Alvarez and Errol Spence Jr. in this week. Invincible Cobbs Says Canelo Only Take “Fighting Easy” that value is missing.

Cobbs’ thoughts on superstar Canelo have been echoed by many boxing fans, who feel he’s only been cherry-picked over the past four years following a grueling rematch with Gennadiy Golovkin in 2018.

Bravely wise, that fight took something from Canelo, making him a risk-averse fighter ever since. Cobbs didn’t say who Canelo should fight, which he feels will be an uphill battle for him, but clearly these are the killers he SHOULD fight:

  • David Benavidez
  • Gennady Golovkin
  • Demetrius Andrade
  • Artur Betterbiev
  • Joe Smith Jr
  • David Morrell Jr
  • Jermall Charlo
  • Jermell Charlo
  • Tim Tszyu

As for IBF/WBC welterweight champion Spence, Cobbs says he doesn’t have “the fighting spirit” anymore, and he feels he is dealing with Alcoholism at this time.

Cobbs (15-0-1, 10 KOs) faced off against Alexis Rocha (18-0-1, 12 KOs) in a 10-round scheduled match in a co-match on Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Michael McKinson on March 19 on DAZN at the USC Galen Center, Los Angeles.

No thoughts on Canelo. Canelo is fighting undeservedly easy battles, and it’s not worth my time,” Blair Cobbs told. Fighthype.

Canelo seems to have retired from fighting high-profile opponents but made no mention of the world of boxing, Eddie Hearn and DAZN.

You could argue the only reason Canelo fought WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol (19-0, 11 KOs) on May 7th is because the Russian boxer hasn’t looked good since his win over Joe. Smith Jr. in 2019.

As for Canelo’s expected trio matchup against Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17, he may feel he is now too old to be in a fight. Golovkin will turn 40 on April 8 and have only fought three times in the past four years.

Earlier in Golovkin’s career, he would fight three times in a year. Mine, how things have changed.

“It was a good fight. I think Ugas will win,” Cobb said as he predicted Yordenis Ugas would beat Errol Spence Jr in their welterweight unification match on April 16.

“When I looked into Errol Spence’s eyes, I no longer saw a fighter with a real fighting spirit. He was defeated outside the ring. People need to understand that the real fight is outside the ring.

“Errol Spence has faced some the demons outside the ring are alcoholics and this and that and dealing with hurt and all that. So we have to see what happens to him when he tests outside the ring.

“All these young fighters, I want to see what happens to them get tested outside of the ring because I’ve been through hell fire. I was ready to go,” Cobbs said.
