Blackhawks trigger Marc-Andre Fleury from COVID protocol

A smiling face is back on the Chicago Blackhawks’ active roster, as the team activates the scorer Marc-Andre Fleury from the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol this morning, on a group tweet.

Fleury’s return is a byproduct of the new, shortened COVID-19 quarantine requirements. Fleury was placed on protocol on December 27, so he is now eligible to return just five days after entry.

Arvid Soderblom will start for Chicago in goal today, but Fleury will return to the squad and will be backup for the game against Calgary.

Fleury has recovered well from a bad start to the season by his standards, working his way back to a .913 savings rate across 20 games. The Blackhawks hope his return can help stabilize a team that was beaten in a 6-1 loss to Nashville yesterday.
