Black Friday and Cyber Monday strike action for Royal Mail workers | Business News

Royal Mail workers have announced two 48-hour strikes to coincide with the busiest online shopping days, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Communication Workers Union (CWU) in Royal letter will go on strike on November 24, 25 and 30 and December 1.

The strike is scheduled to coincide with Black Friday on November 25 and Cyber Monday on November 28.

Improved conditions and wages are being sought by workers who accuse Royal Mail of “undermining” the company and “destroying” their working conditions.

Royal Mail denied the claim that they were involved in the settlement of the business.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We have the best terms and conditions in the industry. We pay 40% more than other parcel companies.

“We want to keep those terms and conditions. The best way to do that is to make the changes we ask for.”

The postal workers’ next action was suggested. The CWU said its postal executives will meet on Thursday to discuss new action during construction through Christmas.

The union will hold a vote in an attempt to reject a deal put forward by the Royal Mail on Monday. A vote of confidence in Royal Mail CEO Simon Thompson will also take place.

The deal, said the CWU, provides for a two-year 7% pay offer, which it describes as “mockery” and “a substantial real-time pay cut”.

The union added that the pay agreement also includes mail center closures, changes to Sunday working hours and “broad changes in the introduction of Uber-style owner-drivers.” .

Strikes happened this week and next before they are withdrawn by the union on Sunday.

“But our 115,000 members will not just accept this fight for their livelihoods and industries,” said CWU Secretary General Dave Ward.

“Simon Thompson has to accept that or walk away – until he does one thing or another, the severe disruption will continue.”

Last month, the company will start a process to implement 5,000 to 6,000 redundant roles in August next year.

This announcement is attributed to Royal Mail workers taking industrial action, which resulted in delays in improving productivity and reduced parcel volumes.

A spokesman for Royal Mail said the company had proposed a new “change pay offer” to CWU worth 9% over two years, despite a loss of £219 million in the first half of the year.

“The CWU negotiated with us in Acas and stated that they are open to change, but now they need to show it.

“Instead, CWU announced a four-day strike action that will further damage our business at our busiest time of the year.

“CWU is playing a dangerous game with the jobs of members and the future of Royal Mail. We urge CWU to withdraw these strikes, for the benefit of our customers and our people.

“We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience that CWU’s continued strike action will cause. We are doing all we can to minimize delays and keep people, businesses and land intact. water is connected.”
