BJP MP Parvesh Verma ‘threatens’ to pour chemical on Delhi govt official; AAP hits back | Delhi News


NEW DELHI: BJP’s West Delhi MP Parvesh Verma caused another controversy on Friday after a video of him shouting at an officer during a medical examination in Yamuna before the Chhath festival surfaced on social media.
The one-and-a-half minute video, filmed by a news channel, shows Verma threatening an officer of the Delhi Jal Leadership Board (DJB) by pouring a chemical used to control foam on Yamuna’s head.
While the unnamed official defending the use of the chemical said it had been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and the central government’s National Mission to Clean Up Ganga for use to control control ammonia phosphorus foam, Verma says it kills people.
“You’re killing people here. You haven’t cleaned Yamuna in eight years and now add chemicals in the river. Take a dip in the river,” he was seen shouting at the officer.
“People will come to take a dip in the river (during the festival)… You’re saying it (the chemical) is approved. I’m going to pour it (the chemical) on your head? You’re not ashamed of yourself.” star?” BJP MP adds.
Verma could not be reached for comment.
West Delhi MP with his East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari and other party colleagues sailed in Yamuna to see government preparedness and water quality in Yamuna before Chhath Puja.
Responding to the media later, BJP MPs later alleged that ‘poisonous’ chemicals had been added to the river to artificially suppress the thick white foam.
“We have seized about 50,000 liters of toxic chemicals and a complaint has also been sent to the police.
It is the Delhi Jal board officials and the Kejriwal people who are using chemicals to prevent foam,” the BJP leaders stated.
Responding to the allegations, Vice President DJB Saurabh Bhardwaj said that BJP leaders should learn something about science and technology.
“It is foolish and incorrect to say that ‘a toxic chemical’ is being used to prevent foaming in Yamuna. Chemical does not mean poison. Even chlorine and alum are used to purify water. chemicals,” he said.
