BJP MP Abuses Delhi Official Over Yamuna Clean-Up

Delhi MP Parvesh Sahib Singh visited Kalindi Kunj ghat in Delhi.

New Delhi:

The AAP on Friday criticized BJP MP Parvesh Verma and other leaders for misconduct with Delhi Jal Council (DJB) officials, who in a video were rebuked by them for having used some chemicals to smear Yamuna, and alleged that the party was hindering Chhath’s preparations.

The allegation came after BJP MP from Delhi’s west Parvesh Verma, known for his violent speeches, and party colleague Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga visited Yamuna’s Kalindi Kunj district.

DJB officials had sprayed defoamer chemicals in the river in front of Chhath Puja at the time of the party leaders’ visit.

“The Delhi government is preparing for Chhath Puja and the BJP leaders are stopping their work and behaving inappropriately (with officials). The BJP wants the Purvanchali brothers to suffer and party to be spoiled.” , AAP national spokesman Saurabh Bharadwaj said in a tweet in Hindi.

Bharadwaj, who is also DJB vice president, also posted a video of the incident showing the BJP congressman pointing to a set of barrels and scolding the official for spraying “poisonous” chemicals.

Aath saal me yaad aya ki ye approved sea. Yahan login ko maar rahe ho tum, aath saal mein tum isko saaf nahin kar paaye. Isme dubki lagao. (After eight years, do you now remember it was approved? You’re killing people here. In eight years you can’t clean it. Take a dip in the river now), “Mr Singh is heard. shouted at the official.

In the video, the official is also heard explaining that the chemical has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is also authorized for use by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG).

AAP and BJP took aim at each other on the issue of Chhath Puja and city river pollution.

The AAP has accused the BJP of being political on the issue, while the opposition party is cornering it in pollution in Yamuna ahead of the Chhath festival.

Chhath Puja, related to making offerings’arghya‘to the Sun god by fasting women in knee-deep water, will be celebrated on Sunday and Monday.

The festival is extremely popular among Purvanchalis – people of Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh – living in Delhi.
