Bisimoto’s Electric Porsche 935 K3V Visits Jay Leno’s Garage

Bizi Ezerioha, the crazy genius behind the California Bisimoto tuner and its crazy buildsrecently visited Jay Leno’s Garage with an all-electric Porsche 935.

Known for its distinctive aerodynamic bodywork, Porsche 935 was one of the most successful race cars of the 1970s and 1980s. But Bisi wasn’t one for convention, so he built a road clone based on the 911, with an engine. The original 6 cylinders were exchanged for electric power. The goal was to create a fast car that was also environmentally conscious.

“I felt that I had the performance without the inherent guilt,” Bisi told Jay as the latter grabbed the pink and gray Porsche for a spin.

The car started out as a 1984 Porsche 911 that was gathering dust in a garage in Palm Springs, California. That’s a logical starting point, as the 935 is derived from the 911. Bisi rebuilt it with a Kremer-style 935 bodywork and placed liquid-cooled battery packs in the front and center of the chassis.

These packages, along with an electric motor also mounted in the center of the car, help the 935 to distribute weight better than the original, notes Bisi. Due to the 911 DNA, the 935 has a rear-mounted engine and therefore considerable rear weight. But this car has a front/rear weight distribution near 50/50, Bisi claims.

The 935 is powered by a Tesla engine with aftermarket controls. It sends 636 horsepower to the rear wheels. Bisi says the tuning process is similar to a re-flashing ECU for a gasoline car, in that it involves a lot of software changes. For example, he raised the rpm limit from 15,000 rpm to 18,200 rpm.

Bisi has installed intake ports in the hood, which normally house the fuel filler. According to Bisi, the car has a J1772 port for level 2 AC charging, which takes about 9 hours. He claims that the A CHAdeMO DC fast charging port (the type used by the Nissan Leaf) can charge the 935 in 36 minutes.
