A Cape Canaveral foal and a Birdstone foal brought home the highest price of $35,000 during the 2022 Alberta Thoroughbred Sale on Friday, September 16 at Westerner Park in Red Deer, Alberta.
With a total of 40 cubs sold, revenue from the 2022 sale has grown to $443,600 this year and the average price has increased to $11,090. In 2021, sales were $405,600 for 37 adults and $10,962 on average.
Bought by dealer Karlene Kingston, the Cape Canaveral foal, consigned by Starline Thoroughbreds, is out of the way for Kafwain mare Lil Missknowitall, who has produced 3 winners to date, including Alberta Champion 2 and 3 years old, Pearl of Knowledge ($207,825) and CTHS winner Alberta Sales S. General Knowledge ($102,892).
The joint topper, consigned by Moonshine Meadow Ranch, is outside of Silkworm, S. Silkworm City Freedom winner produced two ponies to race, both won, including Victory Built ($ 207.016).
Starline Thoroughbreds is the top carrier both by average and total revenue with three consigned annuities with $96,000 in gross and $32,000 in average.
Top buyers by total sales Carole and Jim Barker and Red Ron Farms purchased two annuities consigned by Stone Ranches and Boe and Janet Stone for a total of $54,000. Their new acquisitions include a gelding of Ransom the Moon out of Carolina Station and a filthy Gormley by Ron Rhonda.
Seven horses were purchased through online bidding this year, the most in three years this option has been offered. CTHS Alberta Sale was able to provide real-time viewing and online bidding through a partnership with Direct Livestock Marketing Services (DLMS).
