Bills speak to media for the first time since Damar Hamlin’s injury
There’s a reason morale at the Buffalo Bills facility is higher than it’s been in recent days. The team found that Damar Hamlin was conscious and able to communicate.
Hamlin couldn’t speak, but he could hold hand with his loved ones and write down what he is thinking. With news of Hamlin’s condition improving and having spoken to his father earlier that day, Sean McDermott and Josh Allen spoke to the media for the first time since. Horror scene Monday night.
What they witnessed is still intact, and there are moments when both men had to stop their emotions overwhelm them in front of the media. McDermott thanks everyone he can think of for helping out now or in the minutes and days that follow.
Both men It’s clear that it hasn’t been business as usual with the Bills this week. The players have been deeply contemplating and relying on each other both mentally and physically in recent days. However, Thursday’s news significantly lifted the morale of the entire organization. When Hamlin first woke up, the doctors said he wanted to know who won the game.
Allen told the media: “We heard the news this morning and there was nothing that could be said to us to detract from our day. “We are extremely happy for him and his family. We just want to love him. So the next chance we get, I don’t know when, if we see him soon but that would be great.
While the group is in a better space, they still have to deal with one of the the hardest parts of life inside and outside the football field. The Bills have to get back to work. There’s one more game on the regular season’s schedule, and then the knockouts.
Damar Hamlin’s father spoke to the team
However, they received much-needed encouragement to stay motivated to focus on football. In fact, it was more of an order than a word of encouragement.
“Mario [Damar’s father] talking to us, as a group, and the things that he told us, and really didn’t tell us that he asked us to,” Allen told the media. “You can’t help but respect his request to go out there and do our best.”
That is the current state of the Buffalo Bills. They received some news for which they had hoped and prayed. Their teammates, who they witnessed receiving life-saving care on Monday, opened their eyes and moved a body part. That teammate’s father wanted them to play like the pros they’ve had all season.
It’s going to be an emotional Sunday at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, NY. There will be cheers, but there will certainly be tears. This won’t be the typical scene of an NFL team in the hunt for the top seed in their convention playing the final game of the season at home.
That day may arrange itself when it comes, but for now, Damar Hamlin remains sober. That’s why happiness extends from Niagara Falls all the way to San Diego.
