Bill Burr once called Gina Carano “absolute lover” after Disney fired her from “The Mandalorian.”
The 53-year-old comic hasn’t finished defending Carano yet.
Burr, whose 2019 Netflix special “Paper Tiger” has woken the community, opened up on the subject in a blog post. New interview with Distant Hollywood Reporter.
Occasion? Burr is making his directorial debut, a parenting comedy called The Godfathers. The wide-ranging interview covered Burr’s work, his marriage, and his ability to say what you want on today’s comedy scene.
However, Burr turned the conversation to Carano, when the topic of “The Mandalorian Man” came up. And he did so in ways many might not have expected.
Comics called the former MMA star “cool” and how unfair it was for her to be fired from the hot show.
“I think it’s funny that the libertarians have proven her point. They just use outrage because they don’t like your politics. As a self-proclaimed libertarian, it’s disappointing to see how the left turned right when they went after the Dixie Chicks after they criticized George W. Bush. There aren’t that many – most are just trying not to get in trouble – but there is a small group of these lunatics – on the right or left, at any given moment – causing hysteria. And now there are so many [media outlets] want eyeballs, they make money from ads, that they get the attention of these crazy people.
Burr, who repeatedly berated the outlet’s progressive interviewer, said he’s mostly kept quiet on the matter to take the pressure off the show itself and their co-stars.
He remains tightly closed the mindset that led to Carano’s firing, something he sees across the culture at large.
“Someone’s opinions – or their political beliefs – make people try to destroy their ability to make a living, which is weird to me.”
Carano has perfected herself by collaborating with counterculture vocalists like Ben Shapiro and Phelim McAleer on projects including “Terror on the Prairie” and “My Son Hunter.”
