PATNA: The de facto leader of JD (U) and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday called on party members in different states to work to build unity among opposition parties in their respective regions to ensure defeat of his former ally the BJP in the visit. Lok Sabha probe in 2024.
Speaking at his party’s national council meeting in Karpoori Sabhagar here, he also said that the BJP will be moved across the country in the 2024 general election if all opposition parties fight for unity. party promotes hatred in society.
Nitish also said the BJP considers people with good conduct ‘sadachari’ (those with good conduct) and those who oppose their wrong policies as ‘bhrashtachari’ (corruption). If a ‘Brashtachari’ person returns to the BJP, he/she immediately becomes a ‘sadachari’, he said.
However, responding to media questions as he exited the national council meeting, Nitish overturned his statement on Saturday about limiting the BJP to 50 seats in the 2024 polls, said, “We’re not talking about numbers. ”
Before a question, Nitish admitted he was going to Delhi to meet with leaders of different parties but did not disclose the schedule. He said, “A total of seven parties are supporting the Grand Alliance government in Bihar. Out of the seven parties, four of the party’s top leaders are in Delhi. I will meet them. Besides the leaders of different parties, I will also call on President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar,” he said.
Sources say Nitish may visit Delhi on September 5 after attending his weekly ‘Janta Ke Darbar Mein Mukhyamantri’ show.
Speaking at the meeting, JD(U) national president Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan said a united opposition would guarantee a humiliating defeat to the BJP in 2024, just like the trilateral Mahagathbandhan including JD (U), RJD and Parliament, did Bihar in the assembly polls 2015. In 2015, Mahagathbandhan, winning over 175 seats in the 243-member Bihar Parliament, limited the BJP to 53 seats, despite constant lobbying by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP’s Amit Shah in the state.
Nitish also told party leaders that he would never return to the BJP in his lifetime. “I am saying this unequivocally that Nitish Ji has clearly told party members that he will not ally with the BJP during his lifetime,” said KC Tyagi, National Secretary General JD (U) told reporters shortly after concluding two exchanges- the day of the national executive and council meeting here.
About 250 delegates and senior party officials from 26 Union states and territories attended the national council meeting chaired by Lalan Singh.
To a question, Tyagi also clarified that “Nitish is not the face of the prime minister of the opposition, rather he is the face of the unity of the opposition.”
