Biggest deal in sports history: Juan Soto and New York Mets agree to reported £600m ($765m) contract
Juan Soto is set to sign what is believed to be the biggest contract in sports history after agreeing a 15-year $765m (£600m) deal with Major League Baseball’s New York Mets.
Multiple sources in the United States have revealed details of the deal, although the Mets are yet to confirm this as the 26-year-old Dominican needs to complete a medical.
The MLB website said, outside Soto will receive a $75m signing bonus, with no deferred compensation, in a final deal that could be worth up to $800m (£627m).
The total value of the deal eclipses the 10-year, $700m (£558m) contract that Shohei Ohtani signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year, with the Japanese star agreeing to defer the amount $680m (£541m).

Soto’s new deal is understood to be the largest in professional sports in terms of total value.
Another biggest number including Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott became the highest-paid player in NFL history in September when he reportedly agreed a four-year contract extension said to be worth $240m (£183m).
In 2020, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes signed a 10-year contract extension worth $450 million, at the time the largest contract in NFL history.
In the NBA, Boston Celtics has tied Jayson Tatum to a new five-year contract the reported value is $314m (£245m).
And in football, Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo have a contract with Al-Nassr until 2025 is said to be worth more than €200m (£176.5m) per year, while Lionel Messi’s contract at Inter Miami is said to be worth up to $60m per year year.
