Most Americans disapprove of the job President Biden is doing, with his approval rating hovering around 42% for months after recovering from a mid-30s drop over the summer.
The first years of a president’s term often represent a high level of water for their ratings. Overall, Mr. Biden has the lowest grade point average second year approval ranking of any modern president, with his number down nearly 8 percentage points since his first year in office. Only the average for President Donald J. Trump’s second year was worse.
A persistent drag on Mr Biden’s rating is the economy, with his worst numbers coming amid high inflation and gas prices. His numbers improved slightly after gas prices fell from the national average of about $5 a gallon during the summer. But his rating didn’t go up significantly because gas prices went continue to fall to 2021.
