Best Tablets for Kids: Expert-Tested and Parent-Recommended
For older kids (ages 6-12), there’s Amazon’s new Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet. New for this generation is 25 percent faster, a higher-quality 5-megapixel camera, and 13 hours of battery life instead of 12.
With a 10.1-inch display, you get a bigger screen for less money. The resolution is better than previous generations, with a brighter Full HD 1080p display. It comes with a protective case, a two-year worry-free warranty, and a one-year Amazon Kids+ subscription.
It comes with a slim, child-resistant case and a built-in age filter for kids ages 6-12. Even with all these improvements, this model is still $10 cheaper than the previous generation, at $190.
Review: This New Tablet Is Redefining What Kids Tablets Can Do
ZDNET writer Maria Diaz tried out the new Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet and was “extremely surprised” by its smooth performance.
“The Fire HD 10 Kids Pro proved to be significantly faster than both generations of the Fire HD 8 Kids tablets we had, and since the older ones have been passed down to a four-year-old and a two-year-old, that’s no longer an issue. However, the seven-year-old and new Fire HD 10 Kids Pro owner definitely noticed the difference,” she wrote.
In a Best Buy review, one customer noted, “Once you figure out how to use Amazon Kids to download apps, it works great. My five-year-old loves it. It’s pretty durable despite having a thinner case than the older version.”
