Best-selling cars of 2022: 10 most popular UK models

The latest automobile registration figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) confirm that supply chain issues are continuing to influence the UK’s top 10 best-selling cars list as we enter the second half of 2022.

While Electric Car continues to capture a growing share of the market, each of the 10 most popular models of 2022 to date has at least one internal combustion engine version of its range.

However, it is worth noting that pure electricity Tesla Model Y found itself in tenth place before being recently surpassed by Toyota Yaris. As electric cars become more popular and affordable, it won’t be too surprising to see them dominate this list in the years to come.

Diesel cars also seems to be falling out of favor, accounting for only 5.7% of all new car registrations of 2022 so far.

In terms of overall sales, Vauxhall Corsa is still leading for 2022 and is clearly filling the gap left by its biggest rival, Ford Fiesta. The Fiesta was the best-selling model for several years before 2021, when sales plummeted. Recent availability issues have caused Ford supermini out of the run.

However, Blue Oval is not completely absent from the list because Ford Puma SUVs are in second place in terms of overall sales in 2022 so far, followed by Nissan qashqai. In July, Nissan qashqai had the most sales for the month, followed by MINI and Hyundai Tucson – meaning Corsa and Puma could drop by the end of the year if the trend continues.

UK’s best-selling cars in 2022

Vauxhall Corsa – 24,333

There’s still a long way to go before Vauxhall Corsa crowned as the UK’s best-selling car in 2022. However, supermini leading this year’s list with main competitors like Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo didn’t even make it to the top 10.

Ford Puma – 20.006

The Ford Fiesta has been a fixture at the top of UK best-selling car lists for what may seem like a lifetime, but it hasn’t finished in the top 10 since 2020. Instead, it’s gone all the way up to the top 10. Puma to boost sales of Blue Oval. The UK’s eighth best-selling car in 2021 performs even better in 2022 and continues to be a huge success for Ford.

Nissan Qashqai – 19,097 yen

Kia Sportage – 18,206

The Kia Sportage ranked ninth overall in 2021 – winning third most popular title in the UK SUV. This year got off to a great start but a poor February lost first place. Latest Sportage is currently on sale, and the numbers definitely show that it’s a hit with customers.

Hyundai Tucson – 17,173

We continue to be impressed by Hyundai Tucson that we gave it to it coveted’Mid-size SUV of the year‘title at our New car award for two consecutive years. The Tucson’s newly established luxury approach makes it an attractive purchase for an entirely new set of customers in 2022, which poses a real threat to rivals. like Volkswagen Tiguan and Ford Kuga.

The PumaFord’s older brother became the second best-selling Ford of the year, and for good reason. We think this third generation Kuga is the best yet. It’s a great car to drive and it’s offered with a range of efficient petrol and hybrid engines. Kuga ticks all the boxes for a practical, competitively priced family car.
