Coverage of the Steam Deck over the past few months has been astounding given how much the software has improved over time. If you missed Jared’s review of it at launch, read it This. Testing out new and old games on the Steam Deck is also great because almost every game I play runs fine. While I have insurance the best games you can play on the Steam Deck and even Best Steam Deck Game You Can’t Play on Consolesa lot of people might want to see how newer games play on Valve’s handheld.
After playing many new games released on the Steam Deck both before and after their release, I have put together a list of the best new games to play on the Steam Deck. This feature only includes games that have been released this year and will include all new games with a few exceptions in the case of games that were on the console before but only ported PC this year.
Best New Games to Play on Steam Deck
Rollerdrome is one of the games that inspired me to implement this feature. Roll7 impressed me with OlliOlli World on steam floor And Switch, but given the developer’s previous games, that’s not a big surprise. The Rollerdrome, on the other hand, was a big surprise. The combo skater and third-person shooter features an addictive gameplay loop, precise controls, great music, and a lovely stylish aesthetic. It’s a single player experience that will challenge and amaze you. It also works perfectly on the Steam Deck and has been my favorite game to play during my recent break.
Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix+
Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix+ is one of the more surprising releases on Steam this year. Games are traditionally only available in arcade and console games, so it is surprising to see simultaneous PC releases around the world. The rhythm game with vocaloids and lots of great music came out on Steam this year, and it ran flawlessly on the Steam Deck right out of the box. I’ve been playing it since the day it came out on Steam on my Steam Deck and have had no problems. This edition also brings together the best PS4 and Switch games. If you’ve ever wanted to immerse yourself in the world of Hatsune Miku or simply play a great rhythm game, then Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix+ is well worth your time on the Steam Deck.
When ANNO: Mutationem was originally revealed, it seemed like something I would enjoy, but seeing the cameo from VA-11 Hall-A’s Jill is what made me buy the game on PS5. I enjoyed my time with ANNO: Mutationem on PS5 despite a few flaws. On the Steam Deck, ANNO: Mutationem is a great experience from the start. I’ve played it now on both Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck, and the action-adventure game that blends 2D and 3D styles is an absolute joy to play on mobile. If you’re looking to play a great online adventure with stunning visuals, ANNO: Mutationem is a must-have on the Steam Deck.
Monster Hunter Rises: Sunbreak
Monster Hunter Rise hit Steam earlier this year after launching on Switch last year. Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, the game’s massive expansion, arrived on both Switch and Steam a few months ago, and I’ve played the entire expansion and post-game content available for review on Switch. with almost no problems. Since then, it’s gotten even more updates to bring new monsters, quests, events, etc. In its current state, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is best played on the Steam Deck if you want the definitive mobile experience and this is also one of the best games of this year.
After playing Neon White to review on Switch, then buying it on Steam to try it out on the Steam Deck, I was amazed at how it still holds its appeal in me. Although the dialogue is still not great, the background, music and levels are all great. It plays great on the Steam Deck and is definitely one of the best new indie games you can play right now on any platform. If you like games like Ghostrunner and Paradise Killer, then this game is for you. It also has some more No More Heroes. I hope we get more levels as DLC.
Fraudulent Legacy 2
Just like Neon White, Rogue Legacy 2 is one of this year’s best indie games on any platform. Rogue Legacy 2 builds on the foundation of the first game to give it a more modern feel. I was hoping Spelunky 2 would do this for me, but it doesn’t feel as progressive as Rogue Legacy 2 did. All the new visual styles and stunning levels of Rogue Legacy 2 add up to make this proposition a breeze. Until we get to the Switch or the mobile port, the Steam Deck offers the best and official mobile experience.
I’ve featured Elden Ring among the best games to play on the Steam Deck, but it continues to impress me every time I launch it to play on the go. When Jared sent me the Steam Deck, it was the first game I installed on it to test. Having played Elden Ring on PS5, PS4 Pro, Xbox Series X and even a laptop, I was overwhelmed by how great it felt to play on the Steam Deck. Since its launch, the game has received numerous updates with balance tweaks and performance improvements on several platforms. After replaying it last night for an hour just to discover more of the world, I can safely say it’s one of the best new experiences anyone can have on the Steam Deck.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
I’m not sure if I should include this since it’s a PC port or a PS5 remake of a game that came out a few years ago on PS4. Except for the invisible obligatory nonsense in the game, I adore Marvel’s Spider-Man. Replaying it on PS5 is also great, and while I don’t think the DLC is as good as the base game, it’s a great bundle. I was amazed at how well it ran on the Steam Deck. Being confirmed by Valve before releasing the Steam Deck is definitely a good sign. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is a great PC port and feels like a proper showcase of the Steam Deck’s capabilities.
Drainus is a side-scrolling shooter that helps you absorb enemy bullets while controlling Drainus. Team Ladybug impressed me a lot with Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth, but Drainus blew me away. It feels sleek and is fun to pick up and play with. While the story is nothing to write home about, Drainus plays an important part in the gameplay and visuals. It also borrows the best of the kings in the genre while incorporating its own charm. As of now, it hasn’t been ported to any console either, but it runs flawlessly on the Steam Deck right out of the box. It will keep you coming back for more.
AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative
Spike Chunsoft’s Zero Escape and Danganronpa franchises are household names in the adventure game and visual novel communities, but the publisher’s AI: The Somnium Files series is well worth its time. Friend. AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative is the sequel to AI: The Somnium Files, but can be enjoyed as a standalone experience. AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative is one of my favorite games of this year with its excellent storytelling, humor, and memorable characters. The best part about playing AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative on the Steam Deck is that you can run it and look better than all the console versions when playing in mobile mode. It only takes one step to set up the game on first launch.
Reward – Final Fantasy VII Remake Level Up
Like Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered above, this is a tough one. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is the enhanced PS5 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS4 plus an awesome DLC episode. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade launched on PC last year through the Epic Games Store, and it recently arrived on Steam after ending its exclusive on the PC store. It’s weird to call it a new game, so I included it here as a bonus because it came out on Steam in 2022. Regardless of whether you played the original or not, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is a must for Final Fantasy fans. It’s gorgeous and has one of the best soundtracks in recent years. Playing it on the Steam Deck is an unbelievable experience just like seeing the Elden Ring on mobile for the first time.
Bonus 2 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Cowabunga Collection
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection is out this week on PC and all consoles. I loved my time with it on Switch and PS5, but wouldn’t pass up the chance to play it on the Steam Deck. I took it as soon as it was released and have had no problems with the games so far. If you’re a fan of older TMNT games, this is a must, and it plays great on the Steam Deck. If you are not already sold on the collection, Shaun’s rating 5/5 is the read value. This is easily one of the best classic collectibles out there, and it’s great to see it playing so well on the Steam Deck from day one.
