Saturday night, watch Joe Joyce take on Joseph Parker on BT Sport Box Office, with the fight co-promoted by Queensbury’s Frank Warren and Boxxer’s Ben Shalom. But Shalom has raised his concern that there is little he can do.
Shalom promotes Joseph Parker and this will be the first New Zealander battle under his guidance. The former WBO heavyweight world champion is currently on a six-fight winning streak since losing to Dillian Whyte and is entering the fight after a back-to-back win over Derek Chisora.
However, despite having won 16 of its first 18 matches by knockout, Kiwi now has just three stops in its last 11 games. Therefore, in a interview with Boxing Social, Ben Shalom has admitted that fair assessment, or lack thereof, is his primary concern going into the bout, with Parker as the away boxer.
“We’re looking forward to it, his fans here, he feels like the home team’s warrior.
I just hope that the assessment is fair, because it can get to the point and we need it to be. We’ve seen it a lot this year. That’s my only concern about this. “
While outages are becoming less common these days, that doesn’t mean Parker is on the decline. Instead, he looks like he’s been reborn under new coach Andy Lee, transforming after a disappointing performance against Junior Fa.
Lee was in his corner in both skirmishes with Chisora and he improved significantly on both occasions.. Parker is currently showing off his ability to beat opponents and has shown significant improvement in his shot, but as Shalom mentioned, this style relies on fair scoring.
Joyce and Parker were ranked by the WBO as the #1 and #2 heavyweights in the world, with the win putting them in a strong position to challenge for the world title against Oleksandr Usyk.
Joe Joyce will take on Joseph Parker this Saturday night at the AO Arena in Manchester on the BT Sport Box Office with a stack of cards to support them.
