Bell’s the One Eighth Meeting, Sconsin in Open Mind


Over the past 18 months, racing fans have enjoyed the competition of Bell is a and Sconsin and will be treated to their eighth clash against each other in the $300,000 Open Mind Stakes on September 17 at Churchill Downs.

The six-part Open Mind will go as a 7/11 race on five-stakes Saturday with a post time of 3:50 p.m. ET.

Four weeks ago, Bell’s the One and Sconsin met for the seventh time and dueled in the $200,000 Lady Tak Stakes. Bell’s the One outplayed its opponent and scored a 1/2 win. Owned by Lothenbach Stables and coached by Neil Pessin, Bell’s the One is 8v9 for life as she competes at six feathers. Bell’s the One has also run some of her best races below the Twin Spiers.

‘s 6 year old daughter Missing testicles won five of the 11 starts at Churchill Downs by three seconds and a third. In last year’s Open Mind, Bell’s the One closed late but couldn’t get past Sconsin, who scored a 3/4 long win. Regular rider Corey Lanerie will once again sit in the open mind and the duo will part ways from post 4.

Sconsin of Lloyd Madison Farms IV finished a disappointing fourth in Lady Tak with 4-5th place. Coached by Greg Foley, Sconsin has five wins from his 10 starts at Churchill Downs and three wins from five starts at the long range six times. Jockey Tyler Gaffalione will be back on the 5-year-old train Consists of horse, who jumped off the tracks.

Over 12 laps of Open Mind, no winner has repeated the race. Sconsin set a bet record in last year’s run when she ignited six springs in 1:08.75.

Michael and Katherine Ball’s Club car was often the bridesmaid in matches with Sconsin and Bell’s the One, being among the other three fillers and mares to enter.

Men’s sprinters compete a few races later at the $275,000 Louisville Thoroughbred Society Stakes, where Reeves Thoroughbred Racing’s multi-stakes winner Isolation will lead a group of eight ponies and geldings in a six-horse race. It will run like race 10 at 5:26 pm

Isolate, coached by Tom Amoss, will join the Louisville Thoroughbred Society with a win in two races after a long run of $75,000 Deposit for a Full Week at Hawthorne Park and $135,000 Tale of the Cat Stakes at Racecourse Saratoga. The six-time winner of Mark Valeski will be controlled by Joel Rosario and break from column number 6.

Chief among his rivals in the Louisville Thoroughbred Society is the multi-stakes winner of The Scherr Boys Necker Island .
