BBC documentary screening: Students gathered at Delhi University’s north campus detained | Delhi News

NEW DELHI: Scores of students gathered at University of Delhi‘S north campus to screen a controversial BBC documentary in 2002 Godhra riots was detained by police on Friday, student group activist allegations.
The action comes a few days after a similar uproar at Jawaharlal Nehru . University and Jamia Millia Islamia in the documentary screening.

Police were heavily deployed on the university’s north campus after students dressed up demanded a documentary screening.
Earlier in the day, the President of Delhi University Rajni Abbi said they would not allow screenings and emphasized that the students’ costumes had not been authorized by the authorities.

The National Federation of Students under the National Assembly announced the screening of the documentary at 4pm on the north campus while the Bhim Army Student Union said it would hold a screening outside the Faculty of Arts. school at 5 p.m.
Delhi Police officers entered the Ambedkar University campus to prevent Student Federation of India (SFI) activists from showing the controversial documentary, some students allege, even while the outfit was on made alternative arrangements to view it on phones and laptops.
However, police officials said they have visited all colleges and universities in the county to ensure peace and quiet in the area.

The left-wing SFI alleges that the screening could not be held because the government-run varsity management had disconnected the power, but a QR code with a link to the film was shared with students so they could watch on your personal device.
Jamia Millia Islamia became the focus of a commotion on Wednesday after the SFI’s plan to hold a screening of the documentary was thwarted by teachers and police.
Jawaharlal Nehru University also saw chaos and protests over Tuesday’s screening.
