Richard Sharp has said there was “no conflict of interest” about his role in helping Boris Johnson secure a loan before being appointed BBC chairman.
He said he was confident he was given the job “because it was worth it” after an investigation was conducted into his hiring.
The BBC also reports that Mr Sharp has no plans to step down, although his appointment has been scrutinized.
The former banker has faced calls to quit after it was reported that at the end of 2020 he had introduced his friend Sam Blyth to Cabinet Secretary Simon Case to discuss his retirement. whether Mr Blyth could act as a guarantor for a loan to Mr Johnson, while Mr Sharp is in the process of applying for the role.
In an interview with the broadcaster today, Mr Sharp said Mr Case had made the decision that there was no perceived or perceived conflict of interest.
