Barcelona’s Aubameyang Tied Up, Robbed During Home Invasion

FC Barcelona footballer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and his wife were the victims of a home invasion early Monday morning.

ESPN’s Sam Marsden and Moises Llorens reported Monday that a gang armed with bars has broken into Castelldefels, Spain, where Aubameyang is living with his wife and two children. Aubameyang and his wife were forced to open a safe containing jewelry and other items. They were then handcuffed and tied for a long time while the attackers took away other valuables.

Barcelona confirm that the home invasion has taken place. ESPN reports that neither Aubameyang nor his wife was seriously injured. The thieves escaped and had not been caught by mid-morning on Monday.

ESPN also notes that Aubameyang’s home is located about 200 meters from the properties still owned by former Barcelona stars Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. Both use private security companies to protect their homes.

Aubameyang has just returned home from Barcelona’s 4-0 win over Real Valladolid on Sunday. The 33-year-old striker was a substitute who was not used in the match.
