Badgers’ Johnny Davis injured for rough foul on Nebraska
10 Wisconsin not only suffered a massive home loss to Nebraska on Sunday, but they also lost their player of the year and Player of the Year nominees to injury.
Early in the second half, shortly after recording a fierce tackle in defence, Badgers defender Johnny Davis rushed in for a contested attempt at the other end, but was defeated by Trey McGowens. Davis fell heavily to the floor and went into the locker room and McGowens was judged to have committed a foul two, resulting in automatic disqualification.
Davis did not return to the game and the Cornhuskers let the hosts down 74-73 after just their 10th win of the season.
“I’m optimistic he’ll be fine,” Wisconsin head coach Greg Gard said. Associated Press and ESPN. “The officials know my thoughts and really know them before it happens on some other thing I’ve seen. I’ll leave it at that and I’ll watch the replay and I’ll make the necessary phone calls. “
Davis, sophomore, is Tuesday in the Big Ten in points per game (20.3) and fifth in bounces per game (8.3)
With the loss, the Badgers also missed an opportunity to claim the tournament title outright and fell 24-6.
