Retired former world number one Ashleigh Barty on Friday announced that she is pregnant, nearly a year after the Australian tennis player unexpectedly retired from the sport.
The famous three-time Grand Slam champion stunned the tennis world last March by gave up at the age of 25, says she’s fulfilled her dream and has “spoilt her fitness.”
She married longtime partner Garry Kissick in July and is expecting a baby soon.
“2023 will be the best year ever,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of her baby shoes and pet dog.
“We are very excited about our new adventure. Origi (dog) is already the protective sister.”
Barty is expected to be at Melbourne Park later this month, her Australian Open win scene last yearfor a wide range of occurrences.
Earlier this week, she visited the mixed teams United Cup tournament in Brisbane to welcome Iga Swiatek, who has been crowned world number one following her retirement.
