Auto Expo 2023: MG4 EV launched in India; new electric vehicles, connected technology planned
Auto Expo 2023 will open next week and MG Motor India will be one of the prominent automakers participating in the event. This will be the automaker’s second Auto Expo outing, and the brand has confirmed that it will showcase the MG4 electric hatchback at the biennial event. The MG4 EV will be one of the main attractions at the booth, along with a host of new and existing models.
The MG4 has gone on sale internationally and recently received a five-star safety rating in the latest round of Euro NCAP crash test results. It is based on MG parent company SAIC’s modular expandable platform (MSP) and has the same dimensions as the ZS EV sold in India. The model has a length of 4,287 mm and a wheelbase of 2,705 mm. Style cues have been borrowed from the Cyberster road concept.

The new MG4 electric crossover is 4,287 mm long, 1,836 mm wide and 1,506 mm high.
The MG4 can be equipped with a 51 kWh or 64 kWh battery pack, which promises a 450 km range on a single charge. The latter can be charged in 35 minutes (10-80 percent) using a DC fast charger. The PMS electric motor sends power to the rear wheels with 201 hp (150 kW) and 250 Nm of torque provided. 0-100 kmph comes out in 7.9 seconds with a top speed of 160 kmph.
The MG4 is packed with features with V2L (Vehicle 2 Load) functionality, 7-inch digital dashboard, wireless charger, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with iSmart UI, technology connected car technology, etc. The five-seat version also has MG Pilot with ADAS, leather seats, etc.
MG Motor India will showcase new energy vehicles as well as connected car technology at the 2023 Auto Show
MG Motor India says it will showcase new “energy vehicles and sustainable driving solutions” at the 2023 Motor Show. In addition to the MG4, the brand is expected to showcase the MG5, MG6 as well as the MG6. The upgraded Hector is launching in India tomorrow and will come with comprehensive updated styling, more features and ADAS inclusion. Rumor has it that the MG Air EV will be announced for India on last year cannot be shown at the fair and will instead be launched at a later date.
It is unclear if there are plans to bring the MG4 EV to India soon. The brand wanted to gauge the market reaction at the fair to make that call. The MG4 will compete with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 when it comes to availability but could be significantly cheaper.
