Australia hunted: ‘non-Australian’ betrayal knocks the team out of the game

Fans of Channel 10’s popular new reality show Hunted were shocked when two defectors were disqualified following their ‘non-Australian’ betrayal on Monday’s episode.

Contestants Karen and Brittany, who are aunts and nieces, were finally arrested after more than a week of racing.

After finding their wanted posters plastered all over town, the two boarded a bus from Wonthaggi to Phillip Island, then waited for a ferry to take them out of the area.

But Karen and Brittany were completely unaware that their bus driver, Graham, had informed the Hunters to their location.

Graham contacted Hunter HQ to let them know of the duo’s whereabouts, explaining that he dropped them off at the Phillip Island jetty.

‘I took them on the local bus from Wonthaggi, via Cowes [the main township on Phillip Island] to catch the Stone Creek Ferry,’ he said.

However, Karen and Brittany were able to outrun the Hunters chasing them on the ground.

The next day, they returned to the same pier and hopped a ferry that would come to take them off the island.

But a second trick by the same bus driver eventually got them caught.

Fans took to Twitter to express their anger after the pair were awarded the reward.

“Graham has been nominated for Australian of the Year,” one viewer tweeted.

“Graham is the real villain, not the hunter,” another added.

However, other fans believe that Graham ‘did the right thing’ in exposing the fugitives.

“Three cheers for Graham,” one fan tweeted.

The Hunters are still tracking the 10 contestants – Jake and Rob, Grace and Sonny, Nicholas and Lavinia, Puneet and Chris, and Stathi and Matt – who are running in Victoria, with just 11 days left.

Most of the contestants were photographed within the first week after staying too long with relatives and friends.

Hunted is a thriller series that follows 18 contestants on the run and avoids capture for 21 days.

A $100,000 prize awaits the winners, but first they must hide from an elite team of ‘hunters’ consisting of former intelligence and police officers.

Traveling in pairs, fugitives have only limited resources to escape detection at the scene.

The show has enjoyed high ratings since its premiere last week.
