Auburn number 1 narrowly survived Georgia in last place
No.1 Auburn tiger looked ready to go for their 19th straight win with ease as they led 42-30 at halftime against the Georgia Bulldogs. Instead, Auburn needed late-game heroes from second-year guard Wendell Green Jr. to avoid a nasty bid from the SEC’s bottom-ranked team.
Auburn’s 12-point lead over the Bulldogs vanished in just two minutes of the second half as Georgia went on 11-0 to close the gap. Georgia took a two-point lead in the final minute of the game, but couldn’t extend the lead to three when Aaron Cook failed to hit the free throw. After Auburn fixed the score and Georgia missed three pointers, Green ran to the floor and fought through touch to win the game with seconds remaining.
