Auburn extends winning streak to 15 by beating Kentucky

The Auburn Tigers #2 remains the top dog in the SEC men’s basketball and will likely be the top team in the next AP poll after beating No. 12 Kentucky on Saturday, 80-71 .

Auburn took a double-digit lead in the first half and a 33-29 lead at halftime, but came back with a stunning 51 points in the second half. The Tigers take the free kick well, scoring 56.8% of their on-field goals, but it’s the team’s direct free kick performance that proves the difference.

Kentucky fouled and Auburn made 21 of 23 free throws in the second half. The Wildcats had only shot six free throws after halftime and made four.

The win was Auburn’s 15th straight win and improved the team to 18-1 for the year and 7-0 in the SEC game. Kentucky’s winning streak ended in a 4, and the team were dropped 15-4 with a 5-2 aggregate record.

Auburn is only four points behind Gonzaga for the top spot most recent AP poll, despite receiving 11 more votes in first place. A quality win against a top contender means the Tigers will be the top team in the next AP poll.
