Atlanta crime defense attorney Page Pate drowned off the coast of Georgia
His law firm told USA TODAY.
He’s 55 years old.
Pate, a frequent guest on CNN, died after allegedly being caught in a current off the island of St. Simons, Glynn County Fire-Rescue Director, Scott Cook, told USA TODAY Wednesday.
“It was a big hazard in that area and that seems to be what happened,” Cook said.
The incident happened shortly after 2pm at Gould’s Inlet beach, where crews responded to reports of two swimmers in distress.
At the scene, a lifeboat pulled Pate out of the water and took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Cook confirmed, a young man accompanying him was able to swim to shore safely.

Page graduated from Georgia State University then graduated from the University of Georgia Law School in 1994, his firm Pate, Johnson & Church told USA TODAY.

Pate is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, his sons, Chatham and Asher, his parents Robert and Mary Elizabeth, and his younger brother, Lane.
