Ather Energy opens second production facility in Hosur


Bengaluru-based electric vehicle maker Ather Energy on Wednesday inaugurated its second production facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Spread over 300,000 square feet, the new production facility will help the brand expand its production capacity to 420,000 units per year. With this, the company aims to meet the growing demand for its flagship electric scooters – the Ather 450X and 450 Plus.

The new production plant has two units – one for the production of specialized batteries while the other will be used for vehicle assembly. The battery division will have five assembly lines while the vehicle assembly unit will have two assembly lines.

Ather’s new state-of-the-art facility is in line with the government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision, which promotes local production in the country. The new facility has been equipped with Industry 4.0 that brings together data from Test & Simulation, Process and Field. The company claims to have improved execution times 10x and job content 4x. It uses top testing standards for its scooters on the vehicle as well as on the software side. Every Ather e-scooter currently undergoes more than 1500 rigorous tests.

Furthermore, the production facility also meets some relevant production standards such as no wastewater generated from the plant and no discharge of water. The production site has an in-house STP and the treated water is recirculated for discharge and cultivation. There are also test units for renewable energy at the assembly line and all-electric materials.

In addition, the electric vehicle maker aims to expand its Experience Centers to around 150 in 100 cities by March 2023. It is also investing heavily in charging infrastructure and has reached the milestone. install 500 fast charging stations nationwide.
