At $4,500, is this 1989 Range Rover Beater a deal?

Good price or no dice 1989 Range Rover

While the latest Range Rovers may offer the ultimate in luxury and sophistication, today Good price or no dice classic The presentation is rough and messy. Decide if its price needs to drop further.

It is said that looking at life through rose-colored glasses can skew one’s perspective in the direction of optimism. The 1991 Nissan 300ZX we looked last friday was pink. Well, sort of. It really caught me red, but you can understand. Unfortunately, even a fairly fresh coat of paint can’t get past the car’s wild Ferrari-aping custom bodywork or, more seriously, its lifesaver title. Those factors combined with the $18,500 asking price resulted in a massive 97% No Dice loss for the 300ZX.

Follow Land Rover USA model configurator, the 2023 flagship 7-seater Range Rover Autobiography features multi-zone climate control, 24-way massage and climate-controlled front seats, and a dashboard filled with digital displays and head-up display. This latest and greatest Range Rover also offers an AWD chassis that can boost mass significantly to 60 in 4.6 seconds and will continue to accelerate to a top speed of 155 mph. All that luxury and performance starts at $159,600. Yikes is right.

Of course, good things come at a high price. Or at least that’s how our current currency exchange system works. If you want something nice, you will most likely have to pay for it. Sometimes you will have to pay large sums of money.

Fortunately, today 1989 Range Rover not nice. In fact, it looks pretty mean. Therefore, the farm will not spend money to buy it. We’ll hit that cost in a moment. But first, let’s look at advertising.

According to the seller, this Hunter green Range Rover (in most places) carries the title of clean, current registration, and appears to have a bad attitude. The ad also notes that the truck needs some TLC. Looking around suggests that this is the vehicle to use when parking gates are expected. It just has a honey-badger-no-for-an-eff look at it.

It also has what the ad says is a rollover odometer. Now it is 57,916 miles.

The bodywork looks pretty straight, however, there are patches of primer and some matte paint in places, giving it the look. of a war wagon. There was also some rust in the doorway, but the seller said that the truck floor was repaired at some point. That most likely involves removing the interior, 90% of which has not been reinstalled. In its place now is a pile of jute rugs and a pair of upholstered bucket seats that look like they’re out of a Mazda or something. A custom center console with a smart cup holder rises between them.

Other updates noted in the ad include new bars and power supplies for 3.9-liter V8, and a 2.5-inch lifter to help get rid of those giant tyres. Obviously still being worked on, are the brake pads and rotors.

When it sits, the seller says it “starts, runs, drives fine, stops ok (think 5,000 lb + 33 tyres”). Described in the ad as a “good Beater truck/rock truck,” it’s currently in high demand with an asking price of $4,500.

If you’ve followed the classic Range Rover pricing, you’ll know that attrition has moved the intersection on the supply and demand curves significantly up. This has added value to major Britons worldwide, meaning what was once a four or five thousand dollar truck can now command between 15 and 20 thousand.

That makes this rough rider interesting, to say the least. And at least what this Range Rover seems to offer. Well, except for the big tires I’ve always been obsessed with. Find out if it’s really a deal at that price point.

What do you think? To be its $4,500 worth of Range Rover ask? Or, is it too far for anyone to go that far in purchasing it?

You decide!
