NEW DELHI: Before the Security Council meeting to discuss Russiadeclare that Ukraine planning a “dirty bomb” attack, British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly phoned his counterpart S. Jaishankar to discuss developments related to the conflict. The conversation, which took place on the day the leader of the Conservative Party Rishi Sunak as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, also saw the two leaders discuss other aspects of bilateral relations.
“We discussed the Russia-Ukraine crisis and that the UK will challenge Russia’s allegations and allegations in the UNSC today. [Tuesday]”, Cleverly, who was reappointed secretary of state under Sunak, tweeted.
Jaishankar said he discussed counter-terrorism, bilateral relations and the Ukraine conflict with Cleverly. An agency report from New York citing diplomats said the UN Security Council would discuss behind Russia’s shutdown claims that Ukraine plans to detonate a “dirty bomb” and blame Moscow. The US, France and Britain rejected this claim in a joint statement, suggesting it was a Moscow plot to stage the war. “The world will approve any attempt to use this allegation as a pretext for escalation,” the statement said.
In his first address from 10 Downing Street in London, Sunak said he was taking over at a time when the UK was facing a “deep economic crisis” as it faced the aftermath of Covid and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
