Pollution levels have spiked from Moderate to Poor or Very Poor across India following Diwali celebrations this week. It’s that time of year when the Delhi-NCR area often sees high levels of pollution from firecrackers as well as crop burning in neighboring states. Gone are the days of parity vehicles as the auto industry offers cleaner mobility solutions such as electric vehicles. However, not everyone is ready to buy an EV that usually costs over 10 thousand brackets. For those looking for a second, lower-cost and less polluting vehicle than an ICE vehicle, these five CNG vehicles can be considered as an alternative.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is also available in CNG and is the most affordable in the segment that one can buy currently. It has a starting price of 4.25 lakh (old gallery). The CNG version of the S-Presso was introduced recently in the LXI and VXI variants of the model. Maruti claims the S-Presso CNG cars have a fuel economy of around 32.73 km/kg.

Maruti Alto CNG

Maruti Suzuki’s Alto entry-level hatchback, which recently received a facelift, is also available with a CNG kit. Valuation from 4.76 lakh (old showroom), Alto CNG is available in LXi and LXi(O) variants. Alto CNG claims a range of about 31.59 km/kg.

Tata Motors entered the CNG vehicle segment earlier this year with the launch of Tiago and Tiger iCNG models. The price of the Tiago iCNG, offered in four variants, starts at 6.30 lakh (old gallery) and up to 7.82 lakh (old gallery). Tiago iCNG variants use a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Revotron engine that produces 86 PS of maximum power and 113 Nm of peak torque. On the CNG, power drops to 73 Ps and output torque is 95 Nm. Tata claims a fuel economy figure of 26.49 km/kg.

The fifth model on the list is Maruti Suzuki’s boxy WagonR hatchback. Maruti offers two variants of WagonR, LXi and VXi, in CNG versions. Prices start from 6.34 lakh (old gallery). Maruti claims the WagonR CNG models can save fuel at around 34.05 km/kg.

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG

Last on the list is also a hatchback. Imported Hyundai models are also provided with a CNG kit. Prices of Grand i10 Nios CNG variants start from 7.16 lakh (old gallery) and increase 7.70 lakh (old gallery). Offered in Magna and Sportz variants, the Grand i10 Nios CNG has a fuel economy of around 23 km/kg.
