Arvind Kejriwal vs Assam’s Himanta Sarma Over Schools

'Don't Feel Bad': Arvind Kejriwal vs Assam's Himanta Sarma on School

“How many new schools has the Delhi Government started in the last 7 years?” Himanta Biswa Sarma asked.

Guwahati:

Two days after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal researched the BJP-led Assam government on its plans to merge schools, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma yesterday challenged Aam Party chief Aadmi over the data on new schools in your state. Mr. Kejriwal, known for his confrontational tone, used a diplomatic strategy instead. In keeping with his changed temperament since he launched the “Make India No. 1” pitch in an attempt to position himself as a national leader, he says he doesn’t want to point out the error to the Assam government.

“We are all one country. We have to learn from each other. Only then will India become the number one country.

I’m going to Assam. Tell me when can I come? You performed well in the field of education. You come to Delhi, I’ll show you the progress here,” he tweeted in Hindi.

The chief minister of Delhi earlier commented on Assam’s decision to merge schools with a pass rate of 10th grade this year with other schools of 0. “Closing schools is not the solution. We just need to open many new schools across the country. Instead of closing schools, let’s improve schools and make education right,” he said.

In response, Mr. Sarma slanted the AAP head, saying, “As usual, you comment on something without homework!”

He said that since his days as Minister of Education until now, Assam government has established/accepted 8610 new schools.

“How many new schools has the Delhi Government started in the last 7 years?” he jibed.

Meanwhile, Minister Assam and his close aide Biswa Pijush Hazarika, who yesterday tried to fix Mr. Kejriwal while also accusing him of “destroying” the quality of education in Delhi, took a hit. Another hit at him cited a media report on the Delhi government’s “dropout policy”.

“@ArvindKejriwal ji’s dropout policy of the World’s Best Education Model has once again come to light according to this report by The Wire.

Unfortunately in 2017-18, only 3,812 transferred out of 42,503 were unable to complete the Class X exam,” he tweeted.

34 government or government-supported schools and another 57 joint venture schools with zero pass rates have been shortlisted to close or merge with other schools, officials say said.
