Arvind Kejriwal To Announce AAP’s Gujarat Chief Minister Candidate Today
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Leader Arvind Kejriwal will today announce the name of the party’s ministerial candidate for next month’s Gujarat Parliament elections, party office bearers said.
They said the candidate would be named on the basis of the opinions of the people in the state submitted to the party.
Those in the race for the top spot from AAP include state unit president Gopal Italia, national secretary general Isudan Gadhvi and general secretary Manoj Soratihya, party sources told PTI.
Mr. Kejriwal is scheduled to hold a press conference in Ahmedabad on Friday to announce the name, the party said in a statement on Thursday.
Last week Mr Kejriwal urged people to contact the party via SMS, WhatsApp, voicemail and e-mail to give their views on who would be the party’s ministerial candidate in the state, which is currently is ruled by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He said that people can present their views until the evening of November 3 and on the basis of their opinions the name of the party’s ministerial face will be announced the next day.
“We will announce the results on November 4th,” he said last Saturday.
At the time, Mr. Kejriwal also said, “During the Punjab elections, we asked everyone who would be the next prime minister. People named Bhagwant Mann by the majority. And according to the wishes of the people. public, we have the chief minister.” The AAP on Thursday announced its ninth list of 10 candidates for the Gujarat polls, bringing the number of named candidates announced so far to 118.
Elections to the 182-member Gujarat Parliament will be held in two phases next month – on December 1 and 5, while votes will be counted on December 8.
