“He creates chaos, he creates uncertainty, and he’s always on your shoulders,” says Arteta.

“The moment we gave the ball, he immediately took the initiative and put pressure and put his teammates in the back. He had a lot of leadership skills, I could immediately see what he was doing with the players. guy and he’s the type of guy we want.

“He looks really sharp, really dynamic. (He has) a really good understanding with his teammates right away. They’re looking for him, he’s creating chances, well connected around specific spaces that we wanted to explore especially with him, and yes, we’re really happy.”

Frank Lampard praised his Everton youngsters for their performance against Arsenal in Baltimore.

Homegrown trio Lewis Warrington, Stanley Mills and Reece Welch all came out for the Blues, who played in fifth place in their first game of pre-season although that didn’t appear to be the plan. long-term.

“We had to play three in the back because of the group we had on the trip,” said Lampard, after watching 22-year-old goalkeeper Billy Crellin keep a clean sheet in the second half.

“I’d rather be flexible and be able to play three in midfield, like Arsenal did tonight. Overall, I’m relatively happy, we lost but Arsenal have played two games already.

“We are a bit behind physically and there are some things we can improve on. The second half was my favorite and there were some positives in it.

“The attitude of the young players is very good, Stanley Mills joined the trip because he trained so well last season and in the first week of pre-season at Finch Farm. He’s here for him. He deserves it and he showed it in his game.

“Lewis Warrington’s confidence in receiving the ball in the midfield and playing and moving it [was pleasing], it’s the simple stuff but we haven’t been doing very well since I’ve been here. Reece looked really comfortable and Billy kept a clean sheet for his half. “

New signing James Tarkowski, who completed a free transfer from Burnley earlier this month, has made his debut and has impressed Lampard since joining.

“I’m a big fan of James, I’ve been since before I was the manager of Everton,” said Lampard.

  • Blackpool – Sunday, July 24, Bloomfield Road, Blackpool; starts at 3pm BST
  • Dynamo Kyiv – Friday, July 29, Goodison Park, Liverpool; starts at 7:45pm BST

“I thought he was a player at a really high level in everything and he didn’t let me down, with his personality and leadership skills and strength and quality on the ball.

“He’s a defender who can do both sides of the game and I’m happy with his debut and expect really good things from him.

“I’m not too worried about the result, you always want to win but we were competitive, there’s nothing I don’t like about the players in terms of their application. It’s a set-up and not a game. a nice goal to recognize [Jesus’ opener].

“But Arsenal have put out quite a few full squads and are in a different phase from us at the moment. That should be fine. The process is very important, there’s a lot for me to see and see. think about moving forward.”
