Argentina World Cup winners return home to Buenos Aires | World News


After winning the World Cup crown, Argentina returned home to Buenos Aires on Tuesday and the whole country declared the anniversary a national holiday.

Thousands of fans have lined up since midnight trying to get a glimpse of the Argentine soccer team that has won one of the greatest tournaments. World Cup the finals preceded what was expected to be a day of celebration.

The match saw Lionel Messi and his teammates win the biggest prize in football – a call to victory for the people of the country.

Messi stepped off the plane, trophy in hand, followed by his team, as they were greeted by fans, reporters and a live band.

According to state media agency Télam, the winners will spend their first night at the training ground of the Argentine Football Association.

“The world champion team will depart at noon on Tuesday to Obelisk to celebrate the world title with the fans,” the Argentine Football Association (AFA) said on its official Twitter account.

A series of supporters wore national costumes as the atmosphere was bustling and cheering.

Many were seen camping at the training site on Monday before the team’s arrival.

With the team’s highly anticipated return, Tuesday has been declared a national holiday to celebrate.

The victory marks Argentina’s third World Cup title and the first since 1986, when the legendary Diego Maradona led the team to victory in Mexico.

“It’s crazy that it has come to fruition this way,” Messi said after his historic win.

He continued: “I crave this so much. I know God will bring this gift to me. I have a feeling that this is the gift.”

It was a special moment for Messi and heartbreaking for his club team-mate Kylian Mbappe, who fought to the last minute, in a match that was and is going on. Described as one of the greatest finals in history.
