Aprilia RS 440 coming soon; spy test

The RS 440 will be the first Aprilia motorcycle made in India.

Aprilia has a gap in its portfolio between domestically produced scooters and imported premium bikes that it retails in India in extremely limited quantities. However, all that is about to change with the introduction of an all-new sports car that has just been caught testing.

  1. Released in the next 18 months
  2. New 440cc parallel engine available
  3. Will cost more than KTM RC 390

Aprilia RS 440: twin parallel engines

Although there are speculations that this bike will have a 300-400cc engine, a source tells us that it will in fact use a parallel engine instead of the 440cc. The engine cover seen here is very similar to that of the larger engine on the Aprilia RS 660 and Tuono 660, and we are told that the engine on the RS 440 (and on future derivatives) would be a reworked, smaller capacity parallel motor. twin unit will replace about 440cc.

While power and torque figures remain a secret, they’ll likely be on par with its standard rivals like the Kawasaki Ninja 400, if not a little above. little. This 440cc engine will probably be designed in a more cost-effective way than the 660, so it probably won’t have as high specific power, but even so, around 45-55 hp is perfect. entirely possible, since the RS 660 engine produces 100 hp. From the blurry images, it looks like this car has an under-belly exhaust silencer, similar to the RS 660.

The difference of RS 440 from its brother is in the hardware and chassis department. This is a new engine that will likely require the development of an entirely new chassis to accommodate it. The swingarm also appears to be thinner than the RS 660, although both have a similar design. Keeping in mind that this will be a relatively less powerful (and cost-effective) bike, the RS 440 has a single disc up front. However, its USD fork and monoshock setup is par for the course. The wheels on the RS 440 are also brand new and don’t share their design with any of Aprilia’s other major products.

Aprilia RS 440: design

The styling of the Aprilia RS440 test mule pictured here bears a clear resemblance to the larger sports cars retailed by the Italian brand. The signature three-headlight setup and angled tailgate closely resembles the Aprilia sports bikes and the large digital dashboard is similar to that found on the many-cylinder Aprilia and Moto Guzzi 2021+ bikes. The car also seems to have a large fuel tank, which will contribute to the feeling that this is a large displacement vehicle.

Although the RS 440 has a strong sporty look, its seating position strikes a good balance between comfort and sportiness, as is the case with the RS 660. Aprilia is out of the motorcycle segment. under 500 cc in India and it’s still to be seen what driver-assist electronics the RS 440 is equipped with, especially when rivals like the KTM 390s are rated very well, as well as the Aprilias 660.

Aprilia RS 440: India launch, price

The Aprilia RS 440 will be manufactured in India at Piaggio’s factory in Baramati, outside Pune. We are told that this bike could be launched in India in the next 18 months. When it does, expect it to carry a substantial premium over Rs 3.16 lakh KTM RC390 and in fact its price will probably be close to Rs 5.14 lakh Kawasaki Ninja 400but hopefully not too close.

Of course, the RS 440 will likely be joined by the naked Tuono and possibly even the Tuareg ADV, like we saw on the larger 660 platform.
