Apple’s smart home display could be a modern twist on the iconic iMac G4 design
Apple is said to have been working on producing a smart home display for a while, and now Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has disclose Other details, including that it may have a design reminiscent of the iMac G4 — likely to bring some nostalgia to some. For those unfamiliar, iMac The G4 was launched in 2002 and felt modern for its time, featuring a floating display attached to the base via an arm.

Apple’s smart home devices may borrow classic design cues
Gurman notes in the report that the device in question is expected to have a square aspect ratio display (imagine two iPhone connected), attached to the base in the same way as the iMac G4. Additionally, the base of the device can house speakers, making it capable of functioning as an Apple HomePod. Furthermore, the PowerOn news release suggests that the device will be affordable to place in multiple rooms in a home.

iPad-like software to power its smart features
Gurman claims that the device will run on a completely new operating system, featuring iPad-like applications such as FaceTimeNotes and Calendar. It can also work well as a photo and video display, but its main purpose is still as a control center for various smart home accessories.
This device, along with another high-end smart home device with a robotic arm, is expected to be Apple’s step into the smart home segment. However, the robotic arm device may launch later, around 2026, while this iMac G4-inspired device may launch sooner, according to Gurman.
