Apple’s App Store says it will start showing more ads from today: Report
According to a report, Apple’s App Store will first start showing ads in the Today section. Apple has previously shown ads in the App Store, but has never done so in the Today section since its introduction. Tabs as of today, show only content that has been hand-picked from the App Store’s editorial team. The Today tab is the first part that users are greeted with when they launch the App Store on their iPhone or iPad.
Apple reportedly emailed developers about the update last week as indicated by MacRumors. According to the report, ads will also start appearing in the “You may also like” section that appears below individual app listings. According to Apple’s report, the ads will start appearing in all countries except China.
New ad placements in both areas can be identified by a blue background with an “Ad” icon inside, informing the user that the listing is an ad. According to the report, Apple said that showing ads on the Today tab will help developers get the app’s attention on the front page of the App Store. The “You may also like” section is also another area where developers can place and advertise their apps on other apps’ pages.
It’s currently unclear how this will affect users’ browsing experience. It is also unclear how the “You may also like” section will affect developer relations as developers will need to scramble to display their own apps on their app pages. before someone else’s app appears in it, directing users and potential customers to alternatives instead of the one they opened the App Store to download.
According to an earlier report by Bloomberg, Apple plans to bring ads to more first-party apps. After the App Store, this could include the Maps app, which the company has been testing internally for some time. The ads, similar to what was previously available on the App Store, are expected to show up in search. The article also mentions how Apple could also bring ads to its Podcasts, Books, and Apple TV+ in a similar way.
