Apple secures patent for crack-resistant foldable display technology: report
Apple was granted a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) last week for a laminated flip phone. The Cupertino company is expected to use foldable screen technology in future iPhone and iPad models. It is said to have received other patents related to foldable displays in the past. This latest patent is said to refer to a unique coating for a foldable display, which could be used on future iPhone, iPad, and Mac launches. This coating is also said to have anti-reflective properties.
According to a PatentlyApple report, the USPTO granted a patent with patent number US-20230011092-A1 to Apple. The reported patent covers a layered structure for a curved, flexible, and foldable display. The flexible display is said to be protected by a coating. According to the report, this layer is made up of a transparent support substrate and a hard coat.
The hard coat is said to have high tensile strength and stiffness, which is said to allow it to withstand more tension before breaking than the transparent support. Apple It is mentioned in the patent that cracks in the screen are usually initiated by small cracks.
This hard coating is said to be designed to fill these small cracks before they can cause a large crack in the screen. Apple’s patent is said to also refer to a hard coat that also has anti-reflective properties. It is supposed to be further covered by an anti-smudge coating.
Apple previously received a patent for a foldable self-healing display, as far as the past goes report. The technology is said to be designed to help foldable screens recover from scratches as well as dents. The report also mentions that self-healing will take effect in the affected area without external prompting.
That is believe that Apple will bring a foldable iPad to market for the first time before a foldable iPhone. However, the foldable iPad is expected to arrive in 2025.
